Vineta Čukste–Jurjeva, Partner of Kronbergs Čukste LEVIN, successfully represented the European Central Bank (ECB) in the European Court of Justice case C-238/18 against the Republic of Latvia on security measures against the Governor of Latvijas Banka Ilmārs Rimševics. The court annulled the security measure, prohibition to perform the duties of the President of Latvijas banka, imposed by the Latvian Corruption Prevention Bureau. This court decision followed the line of ECB argumentation that such security measures may only be imposed under exceptional circumstances based on overwhelming or undis¬puted evidence. As the Republic of Latvia did not present such evidence, the decision on security measures was annulled.
